Short Update

Wow, and I was thinkin' about deleting this blog. I'm glad I didn't. Over 840 views from all over the world. Thanks everyone!!! YAY!!!

I am so stoked now!

What have I been up to? Lots of conventions the last three years. LEGENDS OF KATAINIA was picked up by SCATTERED COMICS STUDIOS last year. It's been a real challenge for me to balance the duties of being a Mommy, student and artist but I find clever ways to keep on drawing. I'm cutting back on the amount of events that I participate in, so I can focus on improving and becoming more efficient with my work. The next issue is over half way done and I really hope to get it out this year, but definitely the next. I also have only 3 semesters left to finish my double AA degree. I also sketch more than I used to. Not every sketch is polished enough to share but since I went almost a year without Internet, I am looking forward to sharing more art with everyone. Thanks for keeping tabs on me, keep checking back for more updates.

And When Life Happens

Hi Everyone,

Time for a Spyderdust update:

I had my baby girl February 3rd, at 11:25 pm and she was a whopping 9 pounds 5 ounces!!!
Needless to say, life has been very very busy. I've taken each day one at a time and enjoy the small rewards that everyday brings. I think it's safe to say I am coming out of my "maternity leave" not that I ever really left, and I'm trying my hardest to get back into my work when I can.

I am happy to announce that LoK is one sale and now public, as in it  has it's own ISBN number!!!! You can now (as a retailer) buy the comic wholesale through the printer, minimum quantities apply. This means the comic, in theory should be able to go into comic book shops! I haven't tested the number yet so hopefully all goes well. The comic can be bought wholesale here: https://www.nationsprint.com/clients/racomicsdirect/start_new_order.cgi?with_corp=previous

My new family and I finished our first convention together at Sac Con. I'll post pics soon.

I am diligently working on Issue One bit by bit. Issue Zero is now on sale for a limited time. For every pre-order placed, you will also get a free LoK bookmark of either Lucifer or Lucilia. There will only be 11 signed and numbered copies left with the limited edition ink. The Lucilia print bundle is still available and on sale but I have only a few prints left and once they are gone- that's it. Purchase can be made through my online store at http://www.spyderdust.com via Paypal.

I have a few upcoming convention possibilities but are not confirmed at this time. Remember that if you are not on my mailing list for my newsletter you can email me at thespyderduster@gmail.com
to receive blog updates, convention schedules and latest news.

Back to work I go!

Awesome Press Feature

My close friend Melissa McCommon (creator of Epic Chaos, Carnation and Guardian) and I decided to do a panel at our local anime convention Sac Anime called "From Fan to Creator: How to Make and Publish Your Own Comic." Since it was the last panel of the last day, at the same time as a panel in main events I thought we would have a handful, if any attendees- boy was I glad to be wrong!

Not only did we have a line at the door:

But we filled most of the seating and had some really nice pictures taken of us (Can you see Lucifer who decided to crash the party?):

We also got a wonderful press review from Sacramentopress.com (Thank you so much for the very kind words!): http://www.sacramentopress.com/headline/62390/Winter_2012_SacAnime

and a short clip of our panel was posted up: https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?v=10150479590867016

We hope to host the panel again, and hopefully next time we will get a full video. I was so lucky I got to co-host since I am due to have my baby in less than two weeks!

New Website and Updates

Hi everyone,

I am so happy to announce the renovation of Spyderdust.com. After many risky inquires into other web hosts, I decided to stay with the same old tried and true but this time I went about it differently. I learned how to use Dreamweaver and code my own, this included making all my graphics from scratch. With the assistance of a few good friends I was able to figure out the trouble shooting and launch the site.

I have also finished pencilling Issue One, and have posted up the front cover for your viewing pleasure. You can also read Issue Zero online for free if you haven't purchased the comic yet. The reason for this is that I feel its more important for readers to become invested in the series at this point. I hope that if you like reading it thus far, perhaps you will enjoy it enough to have a tangible copy as a collector's item.

I was recently interviewed for my comic which was very exciting! I will also be co-hosting a panel with the talented Mellisa McCommon this Sunday at the Sac Anime convention on how to publish your own comics...assuming I don't go into labor- ha ha!

Yes, only two more weeks folks until yours truly will be a mommy! But don't worry, even if I am on hiatus for a few weeks or months, there's alot of plans in the works.

If everything goes as planned I will be a busy bee this next convention season.

Sac Con: March/artist
Sac Con: June/artist
Fanime: May/artist *crosses fingers*
Anime Expo: attending
Sac Anime: attending/artist undetermined
Alternative Press Expo: attending

As other conventions come up I will update this list. Many cons happen during the winter holiday season but this year I just couldn't do it captain, I don't have the power!

I'm also working on my dolls again. I have one doll 95% complete, just waiting for a coat of stinky model paint so I have to wait until I'm not pregnant anymore to be safe. I'm fixing broken ones and starting on a long awaited doll of my main hero character Lephisten.
It feels good to be doing so much!

You can keep up to date with my numerous art endeavors by subscribing to The Spyder's Web blog, the e-mail newsletter, my Facebook, or DeviantArt. All links are available through my site.

Soon it will be baby time,

Website Woes

I've been with website host since 2007. They offered free domain for life as long as I paid between $12 to $14 a month for all eternity. It ranges because their promos only last for so long and then the price goes up. But nevertheless, even though their sitebuilder was terrible, they were reliable. My site was never down, and always easy to find.

But alas, someone recommended me to turn away from what was comfortable, for something "cheaper".

Unfortunately cheaper meant paying for 3 years upfront, plus all their service charges. Ouch. But even still, I thought it was better than paying nearly $15 bucks a month for YEARS.

And I've had free hosting before, still do. But it does go along with my username inserted into their domain name which isn't good either. And super limited.

So. Although I am still with the old site, I have an account with the new site of which I have been with for months but does not work well for me. The site builder is horrible and I currently do not own Frontpage, Dreamweaver etc.

I've opted to go with another host. Free hosting, but I pay for my domain once a year. I've heard good and bad from all, and have to take my chances. Supposedly the other 3 year site is going to refund my money. If so, then I will write a positive thing but I've read it's hard to get a refund from them, if not all together impossible.

I will get away from my month to month billing finally, even if the cost is being domain locked. Scary if I don't like them but it's hard to not like the idea of keeping my dot com while enjoying free services, even if the sitebuilder sucks...or doesn't. Don't know yet.

It's all in motion now, no turning back. I just have to wait for everything to process.
I can't wait to design a new site though, I'm excited.
